Resumen

The article explores public participatory geographic information systems (PPGIS) as a decision-making tool in the framework of urban planning projects. We have used PPGIS for the pre-project study in the framework of the urban planning competition ?Periphery?s Resource? of the Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture of the Government of St. Petersburg, held in 2021. In the course of the research, local experts, namely residents of the Okhta historic district in St.Petersburg city, marked daily places, routes, favorite and disliked places, places to preserve and change on the interactive map. The results of the study represent a dataset on the existing and expected subjective quality of the urban environment, and can be used by city planners to justify the design decisions made. Based on research results it is shown how online participatory mapping of the residents? spatial practices and attitudes can be applied in the decision-making process for the development of the urban areas.
